Description: Potassium fluotantalate, also known as potassium heptafluorotantalate, is a colorless orthorhombic crystal system, usually white acicular crystal. It is slightly soluble in cold water, hydrofluoric acid, and soluble in hot water. Tantalum niobium ore is crushed by acid leaching method, and then it is slowly added into the acid leaching tank containing the mixture of hot concentrated hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid to decompose the ore powder. After decanting or filtering and adjusting the acidity, the solution is separated by liquid-liquid extraction. The extraction phase is methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). According to the acidity, niobium and tantalum fluoride are separated. The fluoride of tantalum reacts with potassium hydroxide to prepare potassium fluotantalate After cooling crystallization and centrifugation, potassium fluotantalate was prepared. 2HF+ TaF5 + 2KOH → K2TaF7 + 2H2O.
