Description: Bismuth is silvery white or reddish metal, with metallic luster, brittle hard, rhombic crystal system coarse grain crystal. Soluble in hot sulfuric acid, nitric acid, aqua regia, slowly soluble in hot hydrochloric acid, insoluble in water. It is stable at room temperature and burns in a light blue flame when heated to form yellow or brown bismuth oxide. The volume of molten metal increases after condensation. Bismuth exists in nature in the form of free metals and minerals. The minerals are bismuth pyroxene, bismuth bloom and so on. Bismuth metal is obtained by calcining the mineral into bismuth oxide and then reducing it with carbon. High purity bismuth can be obtained by Pyrorefining and electrorefining.
