Description: The valence electron configuration of Yb3 + (from ytterbium chloride) is 4f135s25p6, which is the key to influence the chemical behavior of Yb3 +. The size of Yb3 + also affects its catalytic performance and biological application. Ytterbium chloride can be prepared by reaction of Yb2O3 with carbon tetrachloride or hot hydrochloric acid. There are better methods to prepare ytterbium chloride for experiment. HCl solution / ammonium chloride method is a low-level and effective method. In addition, YbCl3 hydrate can be dehydrated by various reagents, especially trimethylsilane chloride. Other published methods include the reaction of fine metal powder with mercuric chloride at high temperature in a closed tube.
