Description: Hafnium is a silvery gray transition metal with luster. It does not react with dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid and strong alkali solution, but it is soluble in hydrofluoric acid and aqua regia. Hafnium has more abundances in the earth's crust than bismuth, cadmium and mercury, and is equivalent to beryllium, germanium and uranium. Hafnium is found in all zirconium bearing minerals. Hafnium mostly coexists with zirconium, and there is no separate hafnium raw material. The raw material of hafnium is crude hafnium oxide separated from the technological process of manufacturing zirconium. Hafnium oxide was extracted by ion exchange resin, and hafnium metal was prepared by magnesium reduction or thermal decomposition of hafnium tetraiodide.
